The Center for Carbon Management in Energy (CCME), in the Division of Energy and Innovation at UH, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SCS Technologies to establish a collaborative relationship focused on advancing industry engagement and workforce development in the energy sector. The agreement builds on a shared commitment to explore collaborative projects that are of strategic interest to both organizations, particularly in the areas of carbon management, digitization, energy technologies, and industry advancement.

SCS Technologies is a Houston-based energy technology and oilfield services company specializing in the design, fabrication, installation, and servicing of measurement systems, vapor recovery units (VRUs), petroleum LACT units, pump skids, and related equipment. The company champions a digital-first approach that helps customers improve field operations, reduce costs, and accelerate execution, allowing them to adapt to the rapidly changing energy landscape.

The Center for Carbon Management in Energy fosters collaboration between industry and academia to research and develop projects that tackle the challenge of carbon emissions to support a sustainable energy future and healthier communities. The center also supports the development of technology roadmaps, addresses critical innovation gaps, and provides educational and workforce training opportunities in carbon management through its micro-credentialing courses.

“We are delighted to form this relationship with SCS as it provides an excellent connection for our students, researchers, and other external CCME members to the dynamic advanced technologies and markets served in the energy world,” said Charles McConnell, executive director, CCME.

Under the MOU, both organizations will work together to identify and pursue projects of mutual interest and create opportunities for joint engagement across research, industry events, workforce development, and marketplace outreach.

“The work CCME is doing aligns perfectly with our Vision and Mission at SCS Technologies. Innovation to bring secure, affordable, dispatch-able, energy to improve people’s lives in an environmentally responsible manner and to attract the next generation of energy workers to continue that work is a major part of our mission,” said Cody W. Johnson, CEO, SCS Technologies.

As part of the collaboration, CCME and SCS Technologies will participate in each other’s events and engage with the broader network of stakeholders, building reciprocal visibility and engagement opportunities for both organizations.

The agreement also establishes opportunities for collaboration in several strategic areas:

  • Joint planning and execution of events and symposiums
  • Student engagement initiatives such as internships, guest lectures, and company presentations
  • Faculty and industry expert collaboration
  • Cooperative marketing, outreach, and thought leadership initiatives, such as co-branded insights and industry discussions

The collaboration between CCME and SCS Technologies will strengthen efforts by both organizations to advance practical solutions to some of the most pressing challenges facing the energy industry today while supporting the development of a workforce ready to build a more resilient and technologically advanced energy ecosystem.
